The Pepsi Bottling Group Chooses Redemtech to Handle its Retired Electronics Responsibly
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) July 24, 2008 -- Redemtech (http://www.redemtech.com/), a world leader in IT asset disposition and Technology Change Management services, announced today it has been selected by The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. (PBG) to handle its electronic waste (e-waste) initiatives. In this capacity, Redemtech will develop and manage the company?s comprehensive asset recovery and disposition program designed to keep PBG electronic equipment from entering the waste stream.
?With e-waste becoming an increasingly important environmental issue, more companies today are realizing they can be part of the solution rather than the problem,? said Robert Houghton, president and CEO of Redemtech. ?The Pepsi Bottling Group has demonstrated a serious commitment to promoting environmental sustainability throughout its business, and we are excited to be partnering with them as the company?s single-source asset disposition provider.?
Redemtech will be responsible for recovering, refurbishing, redeploying, reselling and recycling electronics at all of PBG?s locations in the U.S. and Canada. The company will work with Redemtech to ensure that the company?s surplus electronics are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
PBG?s goals for this program include:
- Reducing environmental impacts by properly disposing PBG electronic assets
- Ensuring no PBG e-waste will be landfilled, exported, incinerated or handled by prison labor
- Increasing return on investment for PBG decommissioned assets
- Measuring the successes of PBG?s e-waste efforts
- Meeting all legal and environmental compliance regulations
PBG?s work with Redemtech complements existing initiatives already underway to minimize the company?s environmental footprint and improve all the communities in which it serves. PBG is leveraging technology and process innovation to improve water conservation, decrease energy consumption, drive world-class recycling, and reduce solid waste.
Earlier this year, Redemtech helped PBG host its first ever Employee E-Waste Recycling Day. The event allowed employees at PBG?s headquarters to safely retire their used electronics. In all, Redemtech collected nearly 4,000 pounds of equipment, including old laptops, CPUs, computer monitors, printers, cell phones, chargers, TVs, VCRs and camcorders. Of the 214 units collected, 147 were determined to have resale value. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the resale of employee equipment will be used to fund future PBG collection events or technology donations.
?PBG has always viewed the communities in which we do business as being among our company?s most important stakeholders. As such, we are committed to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations,? said John Burns, PBG?s Director of Environmental Management. ?We look forward to working with Redemtech as we continue to advance our environmental sustainability agenda.?
Redemtech shares PBG?s commitment to environmental and social responsibility. Its mission is to help customers be more competitive in their own businesses through better returns on their surplus technology and improved management of the risks associated with asset disposition.
The company has a strict zero-landfill, zero-export, zero-incineration, zero-prison labor policy for managing e-waste with the technology, automated processes and infrastructure necessary to support those policies. Redemtech has developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) that significantly exceeds all environmental standards required by law. The company?s EMS is certified and governed by ISO 14001 standards.
Recently, Redemtech was selected as one of the first recipients of IDC's Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) certification, focusing on the U.S. market. The recently established certification is given to organizations that have made significant investments in establishing sound IT asset recovery/disposal processes. The certification also requires that companies exceed the minimum criteria passing grade of 75 percent based on 34 IT Asset Disposal-related functions and tasks related to remote applications, onsite services, logistics, in-plant processing and post treatment.
Additionally, Redemtech has committed to uphold the world?s most rigorous mandates for the dismantling and recycling of e-waste by signing The Electronics Recycler?s Pledge of True Stewardship. Just as important as its own practices, Redemtech holds its partners and downstream handlers to the same high standards of e-waste accountability, rigorously vetting their processes and conducting surprise inspections to ensure environmentally responsible disposal.
